The Hawaiian Ocean View Estates Subdivision (HOVE) is located on the slopes of Mauna Loa in the Kau District on the west side of the Big Island. It is approximately 40 miles south of Kailua-Kona, the premier tourist spot on the Big Island and about 15 miles north of Naalehu. Volcano, Hawaii and Volcano National Park are approximately 50 miles away and Hilo is approximately 80 miles away if you continue on the southern route around the island. The town of Ocean View has several restaurants, small grocery stores, ACE hardware, a couple of gas stations and some Bed and Breakfasts.

Because it is located in West Hawaii HOVE has beautiful sunsets. Because it is situated on a slope many of the lots have magnificent ocean views. Many of the lots are tree covered but just as many are covered by lava from past lave flows. The rainfall is very light, compared to East Hawaii.

All HOVE lots consist of one acre, with varying widths of 70, 89 and 122 feet. All lots are on the catchment system. The waste disposal system for undeveloped lots is by septic tank. Many lots have existing electric and telephone hook-up. Some are "paid up" and some are on the SSPP program. All are eligible for electrical and telephone hookup. HOVE has an active community association and Road Maintenance association (808-929-9910). Current annual association dues, which include road maintenance, are $85.00. Real Property taxes on most properties are $100 per year.

There is no requirement that a lot owner build on his/her lot within a certain amount of time, if at all.

The closest beach is located at the end of the Road to the Sea that travels through the Hawaiian Rancheros Subdivision just to the south of Highway 11. There are several beaches and beach parks to the north on the way to Kailua-Kona and to the South towards Volcano and Hilo. South Point (about 15 miles away), the southern most point in the United State, and a beautiful view, can be seen from many of the HOVE lots.
